Busy, Busy, Busy!

I feel like its been a while since I’ve blogged anything but this week has been so busy! And this next week is going to be even busier. Sunday starts a four day Missions Conference at Emmanuel, Friday I’ll be going with the ladies to a Conference in Walkerton,NC for the weekend and the weekend after that we have marriage counseling and TAC Conference at ABC. {[(sigh)]} Don’t get me wrong I’m looking forward to each event, I just take everything one day at a time.

I promised that I would be keeping every one up to date on all the wedding plans. So really quick, before I have to run down the road to do some haircuts, I’ll give a brief view of what we’ve been working on.

  • We are having the wedding at Maranatha Baptist Church, in Shelby but need to find a reception site. We’re looking at Dover Baptist Church, they have a nice “gym” that several girls from MBC have had their receptions at.
  • Kenny and I picked a young lady to be our photographer for the wedding, she is Bethany Burrows older sister, just waiting to hear back from her if she is available that weekend.
  • We are also getting some “fall” season pictures Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Cindy is taking those for us. :)
  • I set up an appointment with David’s Bridal to look for bridesmaids dresses with all the girls, November 19th. Hopefully I can post pictures of what the girls choose.
  • Kenny and I completed our registry at Bed, Bath and Beyond today, we still need to do one at Wal-Mart to be completely done with that task, I feel good that we have at least finished one of them.
  • Today, we also looked at a tux shop and have in mind what Kenny wants to wear and what he would like for the groomsmen. (It looks really sharp)

As I’m reading over this list it sounds like nothing is completely done :s but its a start and I’m happy with that!

Happy Anniversary Ben and Andrea Hamilton!

Happy Anniversary Ben and Andrea

For your anniversary I’ve gathered a couple quotes about marriage. I hope you enjoy them :)

“Our wedding was many years ago. The celebration continues to this day.” ~Gene Perret

“Love is the thing that enables a woman to sing while she mops up the floor after her husband has walked across it in his barn boots.” ~Hoosier Farmer

“Love one another and you will be happy. It’s as simple and as difficult as that.” ~Michael Leunig (doesn’t this sound just like Pastor Camp?)

Without love what are we worth? Eighty-nine cents! Eighty-nine cents worth of chemicals walking around lonely.”~M*A*S*H*, Hawkeye

“Love is not singular except in syllable”~Marvin Taylor

“A happy marriage is a long conversation that always seems too short.”~Andre Maurois

“True love stories never have endings”~Richard Bach

We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”              ~Author Unknown

just married

I wish you both the very best and a wonderful day!

Windows Live Writer

Yay!!!! I finally got my Live Writer to work. :) I don’t have anything in particular to post… I just wanted to use this thing (hope your don’t mind :) So I guess I’ll just give you an update on life in the big city of Spindale.

The Barbershop seems to be going along very well. We just hired a new lady, Allison, to start work next week. After Kenny and I get married I’m planning on cutting back to 2 or 3 days a week (mostly because of the drive down here) so I’m trying to get people in place that can start taking some of my hours.

Church at Emmanuel with Kenny has been wonderful. The people there are so sweet and very welcoming, they all just love “Brother Kenny” to death. We have Missions Conference October 31 thru November 3 and a Ladies Conference, in Walkertown, NC, November 5 & 6. Next week is going to be very busy!!!!

Wedding plans are going very well, at least I feel like we have a good handle on everything. Kenny and I met with Pastor Camp for our first Marriage Counseling session. It went well but we have a lot of “homework” to do :) typical Pastor Camp style. Soon we’ll be ordering invitations, bridesmaid dresses, the cake. (all that stuff seems to be due about the same time lol)

Chattanooga trip January '09 002Well that’s pretty much it for my update on life. My advice for today: get out and enjoy the fall leaves and good weather!Chattanooga trip January '09 001

Pastor Appreciation Day

October is Pastor Appreciation Month (I didn't know that did you?) This past Sunday The Hannah Bible Class, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, gave Pastor & Mrs Haley and Kenny, each, a big basket of goodies and a poem. This is Kenny's poem, I borrowed it to frame it for his office. It says:

Pastor Appreciation
October, 2010

Kenny came to us loud and strong
He shaped our mouths
And voiced our wrongs

Who is this kid?
Some would say
What does he think he is anyway?

But Kenny's dedication and labours
Has captured our hearts
We would be saddened if he chose to depart

Months mounted into years
And we are glad
Because Kenny is the best Maintainance man
We ever had!

Car Title!

I got home from work today and found that my car title had finally come in the mail! (I finished paying off my loan back in June.) I was so excited I just had to post it on here.
It feels good to be the official proud owner of:
2004 Dodge Stratus
(and to be very close to being Debt-free... yes Kenny has me hooked on Dave Ramsy, lol)

Rise and Shine

Not quite sunrise but still a Carolina morning
I've been trying to get up earlier for a while now, just to be more prepared for the day instead of running out the door grabbing an apple off the counter on the way to work. Yesterday was my first successful day :S I'll be honest when it comes to getting up "just five more minutes" is my plea! But that five minutes turns into 25 minutes and then I'm scrambling to get ready, pushing my devo's off to a later time in the day, and not exercising at all (I don't do it because I love it, it just makes me feel better to know I did)
This morning Dad sent me a text message to make sure I was up and you know the first thing I thought of?

"Rise and Shine and give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory
Rise and Shine and
Give God the glory, glory children of the Lord!"

I don't know about you but I love this song. I tried looking up a history on this song(you never know what you can find) there wasn't one but I found all the verses to it, which I had forgotten about. I tried to post a link to the website that the lyrics were on... I think I got it on here :S
The point is that I am always amazed how God gives me a song in the morning if I will take the time to stop and listen.

First time blogger!

This is my first Blog post! {[(very exciting)]} I felt that maybe I should explain my reasons for creating a blog and how I got this all started.

This is actually an old picture of Forest City NC (the next
town over) but Spindale looks a lot like this.

First of all I want to explain my title. I don't actually live in a big city, Spindale, NC is a very small place that most people don't even know is here unless you grew up here or know someone who did. "Life in the Big City" is a phrase I am borrowing from Mrs. Spencer, she makes that statement everytime something big happens in her small town. I was sitting in the Barber Shop where I work trying to come up with a good title and that phrase came to mind as the same groups of people, who I see every day just about, walk up the street to the local drug store for lunch. It just fits!

I have a couple different reasons for blogging:

  • I have been using Facebook for a couple years now, I don't think it is bad in and of itself so if you use it please don't think that I'm looking down on you. But I've noticed that over the past year or so I am spending way too much time looking at useless information, lets just be serious, its the easiest way to gossip. I also have been "hiding" things that some of my contacts have "liked" or posted on my page. I don't plan on deleting my page as of right now but I am going to be limiting my use of it and starting to blog instead! :)
  •
  • I really like the idea of blogging! Several of my friends and family members (and future family members) :) are blogging. It is just a neat way to share your life online.
  • Right now I am in the middle of wedding planning {[(excited again!)]} This will be the main way that I can share my idea's and ask for oppinions with those who are helping out or just interested with how things are progressing.
Those are the main reasons I'm starting a blog (I just noticed that it automatically saves your draft as you write!) So I hope you enjoy reading as much as I am going to enjoy writing.
