Thanksgiving...On Monday

Ok, I know its not Thursday but I believe that we should be thankful all the time.

I Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever.

I Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

To make a longing a story short my Dad thinks my car threw a rod. Now for all the ladies out there who, like me, don’t know what that means, it costs a lot to get it fixed! Anyways I’ll be honest and say that I’ve been a little bummed about it, not knowing what to do, should I try to get it fixed or put the money into a buying a different car? If I go for a different car, how much can I afford to spend? You know how it goes, a million and one questions are going through my mind.

The thankful part: I was reading some of the blogs I’m following this morning and came across Mrs. Lockhart’s blog A Home is a House Full of Love and read Monday's Manna. She did a little piece about following God’s leading. It just got me thinking about these verses in Psalms:

Psalms 139:1-10,14 –

1. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

3. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

4. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

5. Thou has beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

6. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8. If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10. Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

14. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

I’m so glad that I am a Christian and that my Heavenly Father doesn’t forget about me, He knows where I am, He knows my problems, and verse 10 says that his hand will lead me and his right hand will hold me.

Pet Peeves and Funny Things

My Dad found this cute little article in an issue of The Reader’s Digest. I didn’t write all of them out because some of them didn’t apply to my type of business but if you’d like to look up the original article you can find it at: readersdigest.com/hairstylist

Things Your Hairstylist Won’t Tell You

  • I’m a beautician, not a magician. – I can give you Gisele Bundchen’s haircut, but I can’t give you her face.
  • Hairdresser school does not teach about counter-transference, projection, negative reinforcement, or personality disorders. – If your looking for a therapist, all I have is a tail comb and an opinion!
  • Some women think that if they keep their hair all one length the way it was in high school, everyone will think they’re still in high school. – Your not! As you get older, you need to soften the lines around your face. Layers are the magic remedy.
  • Bodies and hair change as hormones change. – If your hair is dry, listless, or brittle, or if it’s not holding your color or style the way it used to, see a doctor. If your hair isn’t over processed, you could be pregnant (surprise!) or menopausal (yes, I can tell.)
  • A “trim” is not “just” a trim. – It requires my expertise, skill, knowledge, and time. Would you say to your dentist, “its just a tooth,” or to your doctor, “its just a leg?”
  • If you want to buy a bottle of color and do your own hair to save a buck, you can live with the consequences.
  • Some clients will say, “Cut my hair just like you did last time.” That always baffles me. The average time between appointments is six to eight weeks. I have hundreds of clients. – How am I supposed to remember exactly how I did your hair the last time? – If you want a carbon copy of a cut and style you loved, take a picture and show me.
  • Why do you think a child’s haircut should cost less than yours? Kids don’t sit still. Kids kick. It’s an intense experience.
  • Standing all day and using scissors and a blow-dryer takes its toll – I have arthritis in my fingers, calcium deposits in my wrist, and 10 % less hearing than I used to. I am a physical wreck!

Some of these are a little on the extreme for me but I did think they were funny. I hope you enjoyed some “Hairdresser Humor.”

Thankful Thursday

Today I’m very thankful for our youth group!

youthgroup2 Sorry I didn’t actually get a picture of our teens :s

Working with the teens has been fun, exciting, and challenging both physically (you try keeping up with sugar high 12-17 year olds and let me know your physical state afterward) and Spiritually.

If you ever get the chance, volunteer to help with the youth group at your church, then just listen to the questions, problems and idea’s they have. I promise you will laugh, be astounded, get stumped by questions, cry, and pray so much harder about the circumstances they face daily. I love our teens and am thankful for the encouragement they are and the challenges they bring.

Coffee Time!

After yesterday’s post about how beautiful and warm the weather has been lately, today, its still beautiful but the temperature on my way to work was way too cold for the short sleeved shirt I had planned on wearing! So what better way to warm up than a cup of coffee.

Coffee Mug 2-24I bought my first, fan club coffee mug!

What was the purpose you might ask…

  • 16oz of coffee for the price of 12oz – Like I really need the extra caffeine.
  • A punch on my card, with 6 punches I get a free cup of Joe. – I didn’t get punches before unless I paid for a larger size coffee.
  • A free cup of regular coffee just for purchasing a mug.
  • Special deals that only fan club mug holders can get :)

More coffee for less $$$ always sounds like a good deal to me!

Just Because

I don’t really have anything important to write about today I just really like my new blog layout :s is that silly?

The temperature here in NC has been so nice lately I keep forgetting that its still February! I just hope that when it cools off this weekend it doesn’t completely kill all of the buds that have started coming out, I just want the pollen/allergy causing stuff to die.

Spring projects… that might get blogged about :)

  • Cleaning out the flower beds, I’d like to get some of this done before the weeds come back in full force!
  • Organizing the music files at the church. Kenny has done well with this already but still has a lot of music in tubs on the office floor, with that said anyone know where we could find an in-expensive filing cabinet? Book shelves would be another nice addition to his office.
  • Yard sale-ing – I’m not going to have one of my own but I really enjoy going to look at them :) I claim the motto: “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
  • Start packing things up to take to Kenny’s. I’ll be starting with decor (lamps and pictures and such), paper work, kitchen and living items that are currently in the attic and books. Once the warm weather is here to stay I might start working on the winter part of my closet :s Look out Kenny, here she comes!
  • The wedding guest book. My cousin scrapbooked her own guest book, it was really cute. For mine I’m planning on having extra space where people can leave advice and comments with their names. I thought it would be more fun to look back at in the years to come.
  • Flower girl basket and ring pillow
  • Wedding veil, I’ve decided to make my own, how hard could it be? To be honest my sister is going to be aiding in this project since she is more crafty in the sewing arena.
  • Address and mail invites… maybe I’ll invite a couple people over and have an invite addressing party! Anyone interested? (sarcasm)

Well I’ve made myself sound like a really crafty person with some of my upcoming projects, but don’t worry they’re really simple and as long as I don’t wait until the last to do them it should be a lot of fun too!

Does anyone else have a project list for this spring?

Wedding Jewelry

I thought it would be really neat to make the necklaces that my Bridesmaids will wear for the wedding. I love DIY type stuff but I’ve never made jewelry before so this is my first and I think it went rather well!

Original Necklace  This is the necklace that was my “inspiration” :) I had bought this a couple years ago and really enjoy wearing it. However, for the wedding I wanted a smaller pearl and a different ribbon. I went to the local bead store, (yes, in our small town we have our own specialty bead shop!) and not only purchased everything I needed, except the ribbon I already had that, but was given detailed instructions on how to put everything together. She really was very nice and VERY helpful. If your into making things with beads you should stop by “The Beaded Path” in Forest City.

Making necklace

This was my “work station,” A.K.A. the footstool from our rocking chair! :)

Finished Products

The finished product!!!!

I made 4 regular sized necklaces for the bridesmaids, and 1 small one for the flower girl. There were enough supplies left over (and I was having fun) to make 2 more regular sized necklaces to give as gifts and 1 small necklace for the flower girl’s sister, what little girl doesn’t like jewelry?

Thankful Thursday

With our wedding just around the corner (113 days, 21 hours, 17 minutes and an odd number of seconds to be exact… but who’s counting right?) and weekly marriage counseling I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about, and praising the Lord for a Godly heritage. But not just for mine, I am EXTREMELY thankful for the family/ heritage I am marrying into!

Today I was reading Mom Godby’s blog: Apple Slices of Our Life, she did a wonderful piece about Grandpa Paul for his birthday and shared a little about his life, salvation and how he continues to walk with the Lord daily and share that walk with others, even the hearing impaired! You can read what she wrote here I promise you will enjoy it! I have to say as I was reading it I thought about the song “I have never lost the wonder of it all!”

I can’t say that I know everything about my future family but I do know that they love the Lord and strive to serve Him with their lives, they also encourage us to do the same. It is a blessing to know that Kenny’s parents and grandparents pray for us on a regular basis.

I stole, borrowed some pictures from their blogs to show everyone what they look like.

Kenny and GramsThis is Kenny and Grams Godby, Gramps went on to be with the Lord back in August but I had the opportunity to meet him and Grams at the Godby Family reunion in June.

Grandpa and Grandma Paul

This is Grandpa and Grandma Paul, Kenny and I got to see them when we went to CO around Christmas.

Dad and Mom Godby

This is Wally and Sherry Godby at his surprise birthday party in December.

What kind of heritage do you have? Better yet what kind are you leaving behind? The second is what I’ve been asking myself a lot recently… just some food for thought!

Blogging about Blogs

Do I have any piano teachers reading? Well if you teach piano or know someone who does you need to read Nickel Notes!

Nicole and I went to Ambassador Baptist College together, as a matter of fact we even were in Piano Pedagogy together! She has a wonderful blog about teaching piano and lists several good recourses for music, games and worksheets. She also has a lot about keeping your stuff organized and making your own teaching aids to fit your particular needs as a teacher. I hope you’ll give her blog a look~see!

Here are some of the posts she has done recently to spark your interest:

Thankful Thursday

I wasn’t really planning on doing a post today because I haven’t really had extra time to spend on blogging recently, but I found myself next to the computer with time to spare just now! Guess I’ll Blog!!!

The past several days I’ve been reading emails and different blogs when I had some spare time and there have been a couple that have just been an extra special blessing. I don’t know if you’ll be interested at all in them but I wanted to share some of them with you. Maybe you can grab a cup of coffee and read some of this as you have time.

Lockhart Life in Brazil - Thoughts on a Missionary Wife

Esther once was my piano teacher when she was first married to Jeremy. It has been neat to see their family grow and follow the Lord’s leading to Brazil. She just posted something another lady wrote about being a missionary wife but I thought it could also apply to any wife who’s husband is in the ministry.  It was a good reminder that these are just women, they don’t have super powers just because they have chosen to live on the mission field.

A Home is a House Full of Love - 12 Keys to your Husbands Heart

Mrs. Lockhart was my Sunday School teacher when I was twelve. She has been a godly example and influence on my life and she continues to do so through her blog. I’m not married yet but Mrs. Lockhart shares things all the time about raising your children for the glory of the Lord among jokes, scripture, pictures of the grandkids, coupons and savings. This post is another way she encourages her readers to hold the heart of their husbands.

Random Issues - Homemade Laundry Detergent

Andrea is my soon to be Sister-In-Law who lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and little girl. Andrea is an encouragement to me in many ways. She finds ways to make her house an organized and inviting home on a budget and even applies a lot of everyday things to scripture. I must confess after reading her post this morning about Laundry Detergent I felt like crying. I find myself desiring what everyone else has and not being content with what the Lord has given me to work with.

There are several more things that I was planning on posting but because of time I’ll have to save them for later. But I want to thank those, whether I mentioned you today or not, who are trying to live for the Lord. You have been an encouragement to me.
