Am I the only one bothered by this?

So I’m in the mall the other day and need to ask the sales associate a question.

“Excuse me, ma’am?”

“Yes?” She replies, as she turns around to me. Much to my horror, she is wearing a shirt, similar to the one above with only a bra underneath… a see through one.

“Ummmmm,” I mutter while trying to remember my question and overt my eyes to the floor. Glad that my hubby wasn’t with me I leave the store embarrassed by what I’ve just encountered.

This incident along with some of my teen girls asking about how to dress modestly (and my research into answering their question from a biblical aspect and not just a personal preference.) Has prompted me to start working on a blog post and a Sunday school lesson(s) about Dressing Like a Child of the King.

If you knew me before I was married you would know that the area of dress has never been my strong suit. I’ve always struggled with trying to fit it, be in style, and be attractive according to the world’s standards. I grew up in a good church that taught on dress and having appropriate standards of modesty but I guess it never sank in or maybe I was too consumed with the lie the devil feeds us about beauty and how to achieve it. It was not until I got married, to a very loving and forgiving man, who helped me see the lie I had bought and who has also encouraged me to change my dress for the glory of God.

It is not easy for me to write on this subject because I feel so inadequate. But at the same time I know that God uses the inadequate and the broken so He can gain all the glory. I hope that you will pray for me and with me as I work on this subject and if you have any suggestions that may be a help I hope you will e-mail them to me or leave a comment for all to see and gain help as well.

Thanks in advance,

Bex

  2. I'm bothered too! Cannot believe all of the see through clothes that are available. And at the beach...it's like girls don't understand that there is no difference in wearing a bra and panties on the beach or wearing it to town or a store, etc. Blows my mind. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. :)

  3. You are NOT the only one bothered by it! I have seen shirts similar to this one recently as well, though "thankfully" not with see-through bras underneath! Shudder. I can't even imagine how awkward that must have been! Nudity is so much more prevalent there where you are, so kudos to you for making a difference through your own example! I am interested to hear what you have learned and what has helped you on your journey. Can't wait to hear your thoughts! =)

  4. Becky, i am definitely looking forward to your post! I am currently speaking to our teen girls on this very topic. I have been for several weeks now, its called Becoming a Lady of Set Apart Femininity! It has been such a blessing to me and an eye opener! I didn't grow up in a Christian home and after being saved my journey to Christ honoring apparel, was a beautiful one, with some bumps along the way. I know i have settled many things in my heart, and work hard to encourage Christ honoring, not boring, or trendy, but beautiful, fashionable, feminine clothing for myself and my daughter! No frumpy here!!!! I hope this makes sense ;) I have even made some beautiful meme's for instagram for many of my young followers to encourage this. NOT push, but shed light upon and let them see how fun, set apart femininity truly is!!! by the way I am not that old LOL. Anyways, i pray for these young ladies who truly, like me at one time, didnt realize, because i wasnt saved, that my clothing was distracting, dishonoring, and identified me with a group of women I would have never wanted to be identified with. My heart ached for the wrong attention, and truthfully dressing that way got it. These young ladies and other ones alike, have a spiritual void that only Christ can fill. So I pray for them, and am even more challenged to stand out in my attire that others may see something different in me.
    Anyways, enough said.
    Have a great day!!!
